Quite surprisingly the new album A Brief Summary went directly in as #2 on the official Danish vinyl hitlist the week after its release – Hall’s highest chart ranking ever. Obviously, it didn’t stay there very long, but thank you very much for all your support.
In the same week Information (one of the major Danish newspapers) published this brilliant review of the record:
Furthermore you can find new features in GAFFA (Denmark’s biggest music magazine) and Jyllands-Posten (the country’s largest daily newspaper) – interviews and articles that circle around the album, the upcoming concerts and Hall’s 40th anniversary as a musician.
You can also hear the extensive Sort Søndag (“Black Sunday”) interview with Hall on P6, the weekly metal broadcast on Denmark’s Radio.
On Friday the 4th of May Martin Hall releases the double album A Brief Summary, a retrospective release featuring several new recordings such as the upcoming video single ”Lesser Gods”. Another newly recorded track is ”Semi”. Apart from this the album features remakes and alternative versions of material mainly selected from his 21st century catalogue.
The title will be released as a double vinyl album, a digipak CD and a music cassette (MC) – all formats in limited editions. Although the design and colour code remains the same on all three versions of the album, the front cover image varies, forming its own visual entirety when compiled as a whole.
Among the guests on the album you’ll find the Danish electronica pioneer Else Marie Pade (1924–2016), the 4AD band Efterklang, the British pianist Othon and the world famous jazz musician Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (1946-2005). The latter performs on the partly re-recorded track ”Lesser Gods”.
The vinyl edition contains additional digital download codes for the album. A Brief Summary will also be made available on all major digital platforms (Spotify, iTunes, Amazon etc.).
In October 2018 Martin Hall will be performing his first concerts as a singer for more than five years. He will be playing with an ensemble of five musicians at the selected events and the set list will feature both older and new tracks.
Ticket sales for Fuglsøcentret and Bremen Teater will commence on the 2nd of March 2018. Sales for the Odense concert will follow at a later date.
Saturday the 27th of October 2018: Kulturmaskinen (Odense)
The musicians accompanying Hall at the concerts will be Christine Raft (piano), Johnny Stage (guitar, sitar), Una Skott (guitar, farfisa organ), Andreas Bennetzen (double bass) and Sisse Selina Larsen (drums, percussion).
Through the years Hall has performed remarkably few concerts in comparison to his long career. His last concert in Copenhagen was awarded six out of six stars in Denmark’s biggest music magazine GAFFA. Most recently he’s been performing live with Marc Almond in London.
As a prelude to the upcoming Martin Hall double album A Brief Summary, a new digital single – “Lesser Gods” – will be available on all major digital platforms on March 30 (Good Friday).
Hall made the original recording of the track back in 1993 with a team of selected musicians featuring legendary Danish jazz musician Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (1946-2005) on double bass, Jonas Johansen on drums, Jens Albrectsen on piano and Ole Hansen on trumpet. On the new 2018 version of the song Martin Hall’s vocal has been re-recorded, just like the track has been remixed and electronically processed.
The new video for the song is filmed by the Danish photographer Robin Skjoldborg. You can see the video here:
You can find the Danish music magazine GAFFA’s feature about Hall and his new releases here:
